Profile

A clinician, researcher and educator in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy

Dr Sean Ledger is the Principal Physiotherapist and co-owner of Inspire Clinic. Over 17+ years he has worked across clinical practice, teaching and research in cardiorespiratory and rehabilitation physiotherapy — and founded the clinic so Central Queensland could access dedicated heart and lung care without travelling for it. His approach pairs detailed clinical assessment with exercise programmes built around each person.

His training spans a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Trinity College Dublin, a Master's in Advanced Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy from University College London (UCL), and a UCL PhD examining how supervised exercise affects lung function, exercise capacity and quality of life over the long term in children with cystic fibrosis.

It is this mix of research depth and everyday clinical work that defines how Sean practises — turning strong evidence into practical, targeted care that helps people breathe easier, move more freely and return to what matters most to them.

Across the clinic, Sean leads assessment and management for people living with chronic and complex heart and lung conditions — from breathlessness and airway clearance to cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen and non-invasive ventilation support, and pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation.

Research

Evidence at the core of practice

Sean's doctoral research at UCL investigated how supervised exercise changes lung function, exercise capacity and quality of life over the long term in children with cystic fibrosis. That research grounding runs through the clinic — care is built on current cardiorespiratory guidelines and outcome measures, and reviewed against the latest evidence.

Education

Teaching the next generation

A committed educator, Sean develops and delivers continuing professional development in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy for clinicians — spanning assessment, the core clinical problems, critical care, rehabilitation and advanced practice.

He holds the title of Adjunct Associate Professor of RMIT University, an honorary academic appointment held alongside his clinical work at the clinic.

This work forms the foundation of Inspire Academy, the clinic's CPD programme for physiotherapists and allied health professionals.

Everyone deserves the chance to breathe easier, move more and live well — whatever their heart or lung condition. My work is about applying the best evidence to care that fits the patient in front of me.
