Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist at the Clinic?

No, you can refer yourself directly. You do not need a GP or specialist referral to access physiotherapy services at Inspire Clinic. However, a referral or care plan from your doctor can unlock Medicare rebates for eligible patients, and is required for DVA-funded care. If you are unsure, give us a call and we can talk through the best pathway for you.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your initial consultation is a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, typically of 45 minutes duration.

Depending on your condition, this will include:
- A detailed health history and review of any referral letters, investigations (e.g., x-rays or scans), or test results
- Assessment of your breathing, exercise capacity, and relevant physical function
- Monitoring of heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturations, and lung sounds using auscultation
- Discussion of your goals and priorities
- Development of an individualised management plan

Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing suitable for exercise, and bring any relevant medical documents, equipment (e.g. CPAP), and your Medicare/health fund card.

How do I book an appointment, and what is your cancellation policy?

You can book online 24/7 via our online booking portal, or contact us directly by phone (+61 402 166 415) or email (reception@inspireclinic.au). We ask that new patients complete their registration form at least 24 hours before their first appointment.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least 3 hours' notice so we can offer the appointment to another patient. We understand that life happens - just give us a call as soon as you can.

Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. We are closed on weekends and public holidays.

What funding options are available to help cover the cost of treatment?

We accept a range of funding arrangements, including:
- Private health insurance: physiotherapy is claimable under most "extras" policies. We process rebates on the spot via Tyro Health.
- Medicare (GP Chronic Care Management Plan): Eligible patients with a chronic condition can access Medicare rebates (~$61.80) with a current GP care plan.
- DVA: We bill directly to the Department of Veterans' Affairs. A current doctor's referral is required.
- NDIS: We support self-managed and plan-managed participants. Please contact us to discuss your NDIS goals and how physiotherapy can be included in your plan.
- WorkCover QLD: We accept approved WorkCover claims.
- My Aged Care: Speak with your support at home manager to arrange funding for physiotherapy.

Standard consultation fees apply for private-paying patients — see our Fees page for current rates.

What is cardiorespiratory rehabilitation and who is it for?

Cardiorespiratory rehabilitation is a structured, supervised exercise and education programme designed for people living with heart or lung conditions.

At Inspire Clinic, our programme runs over 8 weeks with two (30-min) supervised sessions per week and is suitable for people with conditions including:
- COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, or lung cancer
- Heart failure, coronary artery disease, or post-cardiac event recovery
- Patients preparing for or recovering from thoracic or cardiac surgery

Programmes are individually tailored and evidence-based, following Australian and New Zealand Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guidelines and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand guidelines.

Your GP or specialist can refer you, or you are welcome to self-refer.
